cloud-computing

Cloud computing has been a much-touted buzzword in technical circles for some years now, but businesses have not been quick to adopt. 2015 appears to be the year we begin to see an increase in cloud adoption. The push from both the public and private sectors to migrate database applications and platforms to the cloud has gained momentum. Oracle and other major companies, whose technology underpins most of our modern world, have dramatically improved their cloud-based solutions and the stock market has taken notice. Oracle’s stock rating and price have increased in response to the favorable and stable growth predicted by their shift in emphasis to the cloud; Oracle has even reduced prices to increase its market share. While technology visionaries have been advising us that the future of cloud computing is bright, 2015 looks like the year their predictions become reality.

This new release introduces many improvements and exciting updates to the entire portfolio of EPM applications that will improve firms’ business processing.

Some of the major features include a simplified user interface that not only supports multiple OS & browsers, but also allows multiple themes and user-defined backgrounds both for mobile and desktop. Performance has been improved with near zero lag time, fast cell-to-cell navigation and quick scrolling across data grids. The application creation process is much simpler and is supported by the Online Academy with highly structured tutorials & videos.  Users can choose application creation based on simple- or complex-use. The release brings much improved built-in analysis and reporting for dashboards and ad-hoc reporting. The form formatting has developed drastically with Excel-type formatting capabilities and more. The unified admin console provides an enhanced visual application overview to both admin and base users. With the improved Job Manager & Scheduler, one can not only sequence batch jobs, but also schedule routine jobs automatically (rules, import/export, refresh application and much more), even using a mobile device.
Oracle EPM’s newest release not only provides many new and exciting features in the core areas (Essbase, FDMEE, Calc Manager, DRM, SmartView & Planning), but also within modules such as ‘Public Sector Planning & Budgeting’, ‘Project Financial Planning’, ‘Predictive Planning’ ,’Financial Close Management’, and more. ast-event

This Saturday, 03/14/15, is Pi Day!  AST is celebrating Pi Day in our Naperville office today by sharing our favorite flavors of pie.  We will also find out which one of our team members can memorize as many digits of π as possible!  How many can you recite? (No cheating!)

We also introduced our new form of transportation in the office:  the AST FaceTime Express!  This is our new, expertly decorated, luxury vehicle (scooter) to encourage face-to-face interaction in the office (…and less e-mailing from behind our desks).
Don’t forget to celebrate the most intriguing mathematical constant with us by enjoying your favorite pie this weekend!  In the meantime, consider these fun facts about Pi:
·         Pi (π), or p, is also the sixteenth letter in the Greek alphabet.
·         You might also hear Pi referred to as the “circular constant,” “Archimedes’ constant,” or “Ludolph’s number.”
·        The first six digits of pi (314159) appear in order at least six times among the first 10 million decimal places of pi.
·       William Jones (1675-1749) introduced the symbol “π” in 1706, and it was later popularized by Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) in 1737.
·       In the Greek alphabet, π (piwas) is the sixteenth letter. In the English alphabet, p is also the sixteenth letter.
