shutterstock_382765384Oracle has generated more than $12 billion in cloud software sales over the past year.  With software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions gaining significant demand in the ERP world, it’s no surprise that Oracle constantly seeks to enhance its offerings with strategic acquisitions to benefit its customers.

Several recent acquisitions are driving Oracle’s Cloud strategy.  From RightNow, to Taleo, Eloqua, and the most recent announcement, NetSuite, Oracle is not only expanding its footprint of Cloud Applications, but changing its foundation from traditional on-premise ERP to Cloud ERP.

With SaaS Applications, customers benefit from lower total cost of ownership, rapid adoption by users, quicker and less stressful upgrades, and much more.  It’s no surprise that Oracle is making big moves to provide these benefits to its customers.

For a graphical timeline and more details around Oracle’s recent cloud acquisitions, check out Clint Boulton’s recent write-up.

Well, that was fast!  Suddenly, it’s September, and cooler temperatures, fall colors, and football season are right around the corner!

While we do love a crisp fall day and putting the heat waves behind us, we don’t want to let go of the summer sun too easily.  There is still some summer fun to squeeze in before the first leaves fall, so we’re taking advantage of it!

Last Friday, AST team members at the home office took a well-deserved afternoon break for some Chicago-style softball right in our back yard.  Wondering what “Chicago-style softball” is?  Started on Thanksgiving in 1887, this is a style of slow-pitch softball native to Chicago in which a 16-inch ball is used and gloves are out the question.  Read more about its history and why it’s so special to Chicagoans, here!

How are you soaking in the final days of summer ’16?

shutterstock_2348791A thorough understanding of the business needs and the proper balance between an organization’s people, processes, and technology are critical components to the successful integration of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics solutions.  In order to reach this state, face-time with the appropriate business counterparts is essential.  If time isn’t taken to understand what the technical teams and business teams both need out of a solution, the chances for adoption are greatly reduced.  Visually appealing functionality only goes so far; the solution must answer the critical questions being asked of the business, otherwise, you may see users reverting to older, less effective methods.

Being part of your organization’s IT team has to mean more than just being a good coder or implementer.  You should have a complete understanding of the business you are supporting, and its core needs.  In turn, your organization should provide clear direction for the processes it plans to integrate, as well as set defined goals for the people involved.

Juan F. Gorricho, Chief Data and Analytics Officer for Partners Fede, The Walt Disney Company, discusses this critical balance further in his article in CIOReview.
